Noble Escape

In Noble Escape, you are members of a French aristocratic household in 1789 trying to flee an angry Revolutionary mob. The estate has been breached and you need to load all of the fleeing residents into four waiting carriages to escape. However, you know that the rebels will catch up to the heaviest carriage and pull it aside looking for nobles, weighed down by their riches, to take away for “questioning.” Can you balance the carriages so that the most nobles are in lighter carriages and off to safety?

An interesting game using a deck of playing cards, going through 4 cards at a time until the entire deck is used. Your objective is to place your cards skillfully across the carriages, with one going into each of the four every round, until the deck is gone. Whoever has the heaviest carriage with the fewest nobles in it will win, which is going to require some good planning, use of special abilities, and perhaps even a bit of luck. The game also comes with a solo mode, and some solo variants that are sure to catch the interest of solo gamers as well.

Tower of Letterdrop

Descend the Tower of Letterdrop, where every decision sharpens your wit! Navigate letters through a labyrinth of arrows, crafting a sequence of correctly spelled 5-letter words. With each new word, you guide dropped letters toward the tower’s base, unlocking opportunities for high scores. Can you conquer the challenge and reach the last row to claim victory?

An interesting challenge with these puzzles, as you are making 5-letter words and certain letter spots move onto the same space in the next word you must create. There’s bonus letters that earn you additional points at the end for using them, providing even more ways to exercise your wordsmithing abilities. With each puzzle giving you the first word, there’s plenty to adapt to as you work your way through the Tower of Letterdrop.

GRIMLORE Case File #9: Bernd Klotz, Federal Agent

Bernd Klotz, a seasoned Federal Agent, is determined and courageous. He is distinguished by his sharp intuition, military discipline, and an unyielding drive to uncover the truth. In the mysterious coastal town of Kingsport, people are disappearing in inexplicable ways. Federal Agent Bernd Klotz is called in to investigate the disappearance of Margaret Leland. In the process, he uncovers dark secrets and eerie dream gates that make nightmares come true.

If you haven’t jumped in on the weekly GRIMLORE yet, you are missing out on a small gem of a game system. With clever mechanics using letters to form words, you’re traversing across several locations to face down threats, gather gear and spells/artifacts, and emerge victorious. With even more writing for the story and lore than is shared here, each session comes with some nicely fleshed flavor to explain what is being encountered as your hero traverses the challenges and even has a resolution for how it all concludes. What are you waiting for? Check this one out if it catches your interest!

Dangerous Space: Dee, Repair Mission

Dee lost part of her leg when a rescue mission went sideways. The grateful family financed her unique drone backpack which earned the cadet her apt callsign.

When it comes to this repair mission, you’ll have a hard time finding someone better equipped to tackle it than Dee. Her impressive Movement Gear will help her overcome one piece of damage with ease, while her attack is not anything to scoff at, either. Especially with her Dual Fire skill, letting her add a die back into her pool after attacking with it. Her one downside comes in her Light Flak vest, but as long as she isn’t getting hit too often, she should be able to continue marching forward.

Power Creep: Brent, East ‘Burg, 2095

Scarcity has pushed settlers to invent and improvise to meet their needs…and to protect them!

Here we go, another new challenge this week in Power Creep. As promised, let’s talk about that Creep track! The first mark you’ll pass causes you to cross out all instances of a crafting component across all structures, suddenly making it a bigger challenge to craft those things you need! You’ll probably want to get his Forge or Workshop blueprints unlocked quickly, as those let you gain, or change, crafting materials which can help to overcome this. Oh, and the threats this week aren’t anything to sneer at, either, as they gain in power for every food and water you’ve claimed. Ouch!

Game of the Week: The Grid

In the year 2056 the Grid is a virtual network of corporate data and secrets. The only item of value these days is information - and you’re just the wirehead to steal it. Get in to the main frame, locate the goods, and get back out before the security programs track you. Otherwise you’ll risk having your neurons zapped or corporate security busting down your door!

Navigate your hacker’s avatar through a network, avoiding the lurking security bots throughout the map. You need to work to capture data and complete jobs, but you aren’t well-equipped to begin. However, you can mod your own grid deck in order to enhance your choice of actions. If you enjoy games such as Night Class, you’re going to also love this one from the same designer. I tend to enjoy the progression that comes from upgrading things throughout the game, making it feel as though every game plays out differently based on what you choose, not just on what dice roll.

Mysticana: Curse of Dragons Expansion

The ancient dragons who once terrorized your realm have returned in search of new treasure. Rally your forces and wield elemental magic to guard against their invasion.

Bring your armies to bear against the mighty dragons, seeking to vanquish them one-at-a-time before you are forced to admit defeat at their talons. With some interesting deployment options, including a need to maintain ascending or descending order within each battlefield, there’s a lot of weight to each decision. Add in special abilities to trigger based on elements, and a risk of busting that can lead to accelerating the game’s end toward a loss, you’ve got a lot of work cut out for you if you want to break this curse!
