Race Day

Race Day is a racing-themed puzzle game that challenges you to lay down tracks for three races, aiming to connect the start and end characters for the perfect finish. With every card you play, you'll piece together thrilling racecourses, stacking and strategizing to keep the momentum going. It’s all about maximizing points and creating the most exciting tracks possible before the final flag waves! Ready to take on the challenge and see how far your tracks can go?

A little solitaire game that will see players working to play the right cards to the right tracks in order to complete the track effectively, bringing the character from one end of the course to the other. Each card has three characters, as well as three roads, and from your hand of 5 you’ll end up playing 3 of them onto the 3 different tracks. Can you maximize  your points as you complete the tracks, or will you end up tossing that card you didn’t know you were going to need? With simple rules, few components, and a fast playing time, this is one that should be fairly easy to hit your table.

Micromend

Something happened with the Core Micro Device! Your most essential equipment is about to stop working, but everything depends on its proper functioning. You cannot let this happen and must interfere urgently to repair it!

Use your dice rolls to fill in the numbers and make the required connections. This game is as much about planning as it is about adapting to the rolls you get - having a healthy mix of both during the game will help you to come out on the other side as a victor. With three phases to the game, planning ahead a little bit can pay some strong dividends by the time you’re nearing the end - assuming you don’t lock yourself into an unwinnable situation before that and have to concede.

Dangerous Space: Dint, Rescue Mission

Dint’s studies in advanced astrophysics have sadly gone to waste as of late, but as soon as he has enough credits…see ya!

As promised, let’s chat about Dint this week. He comes with two different weapon paths to choose from for his gear. While you may think the ranged benefit - and larger slew of upgrade spots - would make him a no-brainer to grow his Quickfire 12 path, there are some good reasons to do the Star Fist instead. Primarily due to his Sword Master skill that can be used to add 1 to a die used to attack a threat. And when you consider that Cocky Sentry, who makes it so you cannot complete a checkpoint, there’s plenty of reason you might want to swing a bigger die in combat.

Game of the Week: Irukandji on sale for just $2!

You have swum a long way out, and it is now time to head home. Race back to the beach without coming across one of the most venomous jellyfish in the world: the Irukandji.

It isn’t every game that teaches you something and this one is going to let you learn a little about a very small, yet very dangerous, jellyfish. Add in fun gameplay where players swim to grab a beach ball and make it to the beach, use tiles on their opponents to foil plans, reveal tiles that could contain the dreadful jellyfish, and more, and you have the making of a fun little game. There aren’t many games where the objective to win is to finish a round with 2 VP, but in this one it might just take several plays to get out of negative if your luck runs sour.

Mysticana

Living elements interweave throughout the realm. A water guardian extinguishes a roaring wildfire that leaves behind unrecognizably scorched earth. The seared avatar of that earth rises and consumes the water of a dozen seas. With infinite variations on their eternal cycle, no element can ever reign supreme.

An 18-card Foundation Deck, this deck provides rules for a variety of games and expansions, while leaving the door open for even more in the future. The cards are simply numbered 2-6 - along with an Avatar card - across 3 different suits, with those suits containing a rock-paper-scissors hierarchy to break those ties. Some of the games include a 1-player game of arranging a sequence of possible events, a 2-player game of outplaying your opponent, and a 2-4 player game of guessing and deduction. If you get excited about having a variety of games in a very, very small package, you will absolutely want to check out Mysticana.

Mysticana: Cave of Djinns Expansion

For those who stumble into the Cave of Djinns, there is only one way out. Should you fail to solve the djinns’ riddles, you will surely suffer their wrath.

A tricky little game to add a new flavor to your Mysticana experience. This one provides a new way to play solo, providing a puzzle to solve involving the placement of cards in a 13-card grid around 6 different Djinn cards. Each Djinn requires a specific riddle (card criteria) to be placed, and this will likely lead to both clever and frustrating moments. Solve several riddles and you resolve them one-at-a-time, so long as the criteria is still met for the next riddle upon resolving the ability of the previously-completed riddle. These rewards can range from moving cards, reclaiming cards, or even swapping some cards on the grid to help you answer the remaining riddles before your time runs out.

Mysticana: Arcane Artifacts Expansion

The world is full of long-forgotten items of power. Will you harness their enchantments or gamble on your own fortunes to prevail?

An interesting game to play using the Mysticana system, this lets 2-6 players join in on a game where you’ll end up comparing 2-card hands with bonus points based on the criteria of the current face-up artifact for that round, such as adding +3 to the total if you have the highest sum of a specific suit of cards. Players can bow out early to earn a point, or play through to win somewhere between 2-7 points depending on the point card that gets flipped. Players will play hands until someone nets 30 points to take down the victory.
